Built for Trades, Not Just Leads: How the MEINHAUS Pro Model Works

Why MEINHAUS gives trades free access to sold and priced project opportunities, how Premium fits into the system, and why we believe contractor platforms should create value even before a Pro wins a job.

MEINHAUS contractor reviewing a sold and priced renovation project
MEINHAUS Pros review defined project opportunities rather than purchasing raw homeowner contact information.

The home-service industry has spent years teaching contractors that the internet can bring them leads.

The problem is that a lead is not the same thing as a project.

A phone number is not a scope of work. A homeowner enquiry is not a sold job. A request for three quotes is not guaranteed revenue. And paying for the opportunity to make another sales call is very different from being asked to execute a project that has already been scoped, priced and sold.

That distinction sits at the centre of the MEINHAUS Pro model.

MEINHAUS operates as an Online General Contractor. Homeowners hire MEINHAUS. We work to understand the project, create the scope, develop the price, manage the commercial relationship and organize execution. Qualified Pros then perform the appropriate subcontracted work through the MEINHAUS system.

MEINHAUS does not sell individual homeowner leads to Pros. A free member can apply for eligible project opportunities without buying the customer's phone number, paying for the lead or purchasing a subscription first.

A lead marketplace and a general contractor solve different problems

Traditional lead marketplaces help homeowners and contractors find one another. That can be useful, but the professional generally still has to convert the opportunity into a job.

For example, HomeStars currently describes its model as allowing Pros to express interest in homeowner jobs and charging when the homeowner chooses to make contact. Its current professional agreement describes a pay-as-you-go structure where fees are charged per lead, with the amount depending on factors such as job size, category and location.

MEINHAUS is solving a different part of the transaction.

Lead marketplace

A homeowner posts a request. Contractors compete for contact and then typically handle their own sales process, site visit, quote, follow-up, contracting and customer management.

MEINHAUS

MEINHAUS works with the homeowner to define and sell the project. The Pro reviews the project scope, location, timing, compensation and requirements before deciding whether to apply.

This does not mean every opportunity is perfect or that project volume is unlimited. MEINHAUS is still a growing company and we are deliberate about not promising Pros a guaranteed amount of work.

It means the underlying economic relationship is different.

Free members can receive real projects

This is one of the most important parts of the platform.

MEINHAUS Pro is free to join.

A verified free member can review and apply for eligible project opportunities. Free Pros are not placed into a separate “lead-only” system where they must first pay simply to learn who the customer is.

And free members really do receive work.

Many MEINHAUS projects continue to be assigned to free Pros because that professional happens to be the best fit for the specific job: they are close to the property, available for the requested time, have relevant experience, maintain the required documentation and have useful photographs or project history on file.

Project assignment is not intended to be an auction where the professional who pays the platform the most automatically wins.

MEINHAUS can consider:

  • service and trade experience;
  • project location and travel distance;
  • availability;
  • account completeness;
  • identity and insurance verification;
  • required trade or regulatory documentation;
  • relevant project photographs;
  • MEINHAUS project history;
  • responsiveness;
  • customer outcomes;
  • ProScore;
  • membership status;
  • relevant partner engagement.

Our goal is to select the professional we have the strongest reason to believe can complete the particular project successfully.

MEINHAUS free versus premium Pro membership comparison
Premium can add advantages, but free Pros remain eligible for real project assignments when they are the strongest fit.

So what is Premium for?

MEINHAUS offers both free and Premium membership options because not every professional wants the same relationship with the platform.

A casual contractor might only want to pick up a suitable project occasionally when there is an opening in the schedule. Another company may want to build MEINHAUS into a more regular part of its business-development strategy.

Premium membership can provide additional platform advantages and can be considered as part of project-assignment priority, particularly when multiple similarly qualified professionals are interested in the same project.

But Premium is not a promise to purchase revenue.

A Premium member who is not suited to a project should not automatically receive it over a free member who is local, available, properly documented and highly experienced in that exact work.

That distinction matters because the long-term value of ProScore and membership disappears if professionals believe the system is simply pay-to-win.

You can review current membership options at MEINHAUS Pro Subscriptions.

What can the earning potential look like?

MEINHAUS is still in a startup phase, and project density varies significantly by trade, market and time of year. We do not promise any professional a minimum amount of work, income or project volume.

However, the model is already producing meaningful results for some professionals.

Some Premium MEINHAUS members are currently on track to earn more than $50,000 CAD during 2026 from MEINHAUS-assigned projects.

That is not a claim about typical earnings. It is not a guarantee of future results. It is an example of what can happen when project fit, availability and a strong platform relationship line up over time.

What makes the example especially interesting is that this work can remain highly flexible. Many Pros use MEINHAUS on a freelance or casual basis rather than treating the platform as their only source of revenue.

The professional can continue running their own business, serving existing clients and accepting MEINHAUS projects when the schedule and scope make sense.

The project already has structure before the Pro arrives

One of the largest inefficiencies in residential construction happens before anyone starts building.

Contractors spend time:

  • responding to enquiries;
  • driving to unpaid site visits;
  • measuring projects;
  • preparing estimates;
  • following up;
  • negotiating;
  • explaining scope;
  • chasing decisions;
  • answering the same sales questions repeatedly.

Some of that work is necessary. But a large amount of it does not produce revenue.

The MEINHAUS model attempts to move more of that burden into a centralized project system.

When a Pro sees a project opportunity, MEINHAUS can provide information such as:

  • detailed scope of work;
  • customer or site photographs;
  • approximate location;
  • desired timing;
  • material responsibilities;
  • relevant trade requirements;
  • project expectations;
  • compensation available for completing the work.

The professional can decide whether the project makes sense before investing substantial time into it.

Good rates matter

A platform does not create sustainable contractor value by simply producing a large number of low-quality opportunities.

The actual project economics have to work.

MEINHAUS wants compensation to reflect the real scope and expectations of the work while still allowing the overall project to be commercially viable for the homeowner and the general contractor.

This is one of the reasons project data matters so much.

As MEINHAUS collects more information about scopes, bids, awarded payouts, project duration, materials, geography and completion outcomes, pricing can become increasingly grounded in actual field activity instead of generic assumptions.

Our long-term objective is not maximum job volume at any price.

It is a more efficient market in which the right project reaches the right professional at a price that allows the work to be completed properly.

Value should exist even when you are not assigned a project

This is another major difference in how we think about the Pro platform.

If the only reason to use MEINHAUS were the hope of receiving a project, then a professional who did not receive one that month would get no value from the relationship.

We want the platform to provide benefits that contractors already need in their businesses.

Professional paint pricing through Dulux

Eligible free MEINHAUS Pros who opt into the Dulux program and meet the account requirements can currently access 40% off eligible in-store purchases.

Eligible subscribed painting professionals can access 50% off and may receive dedicated Dulux representative support.

For a working painter, that is not an abstract platform feature. Paint is something the business already buys.

See MEINHAUS × Dulux Pro Pricing.

Insurance access and comparison

Commercial liability insurance is another real operating expense for contractors.

MEINHAUS works with insurance partners so Pros can obtain quotes, compare options and keep verification connected to their platform account.

Pros can access the MEINHAUS insurance pathway at MEINHAUS.ca/zen.

A professional who already has insurance does not necessarily need to replace it simply because they use MEINHAUS. The larger goal is to make insurance verification, comparison and business readiness easier to manage.

ProScore is about turning reputation into usable data

Residential construction has always relied heavily on reputation.

The difficulty is that reputation often lives in scattered places: a few Google reviews, photos on a phone, references, licences, insurance documents and the personal memory of customers or general contractors.

MEINHAUS ProScore is intended to make more of that information usable inside the project-assignment process.

ProScore can incorporate factors such as:

  • verification;
  • documentation;
  • insurance status;
  • service-category experience;
  • responsiveness;
  • project history;
  • customer feedback;
  • jobsite conduct;
  • completion documentation;
  • platform standing;
  • relevant partner engagement.

This does not eliminate human judgment. It gives the project team better information when deciding who should receive an assignment.

Why photographs and documentation matter

One of the easiest ways for a skilled contractor to undersell themselves is to have no useful evidence of their work.

A Pro can tell us they have installed hundreds of bathrooms. Another Pro can show:

  • finished shower waterproofing;
  • tile layout;
  • completed niches;
  • vanity installation;
  • trim details;
  • finished project photographs;
  • previous customer outcomes.

The second account is easier to evaluate.

This is why project photographs are not cosmetic profile decoration. They are operational data.

Education is part of the product

The construction industry has enormous technical expertise, but information is fragmented.

Codes change. Products change. Insurance requirements change. Manufacturers introduce new systems. Homeowners expect better digital communication. AI is beginning to change estimating, documentation and customer service.

MEINHAUS wants Pro education to become a permanent part of the platform.

That includes:

  • trade-specific onboarding quizzes and education;
  • ProScore education;
  • project documentation standards;
  • customer communication guidance;
  • insurance and business-readiness information;
  • manufacturer and supplier education;
  • app tutorials;
  • project-management best practices;
  • future certifications, badges and micro-credentials.

The objective is not to tell experienced tradespeople how to do their trade.

It is to make the business and project-delivery system around the trade more efficient, measurable and easier to navigate.

A better construction process should benefit both sides

Homeowners want clear pricing, dependable scheduling, accountability and communication.

Trades want profitable work, good information, realistic schedules, fewer wasted sales hours and customers who understand what they purchased.

Those interests are not fundamentally opposed.

A better project system can improve both at the same time.

If MEINHAUS can define the scope more accurately, the homeowner gets clearer expectations and the Pro receives a better-defined assignment.

If project photographs and milestone information are organized, the homeowner receives better visibility and the Pro has better evidence of completion.

If material purchasing becomes connected to project demand, the homeowner can receive more predictable procurement and the contractor can access better pricing.

If ProScore becomes richer, MEINHAUS can make better assignments and skilled professionals have more ways to demonstrate that they are reliable.

The long-term goal: less friction around skilled work

Technology does not replace the person who has to install the tile, wire the panel, frame the wall, repair the roof or finish the drywall.

But technology can remove a remarkable amount of friction around that work.

It can help:

  • collect project information;
  • generate better scopes;
  • organize photographs;
  • price labour and materials;
  • match projects to qualified Pros;
  • coordinate scheduling;
  • track documentation;
  • manage customer communication;
  • surface relevant supplier products;
  • improve contractor education;
  • build better performance data over time.

That is the larger MEINHAUS thesis.

We are not trying to build a better classifieds page for contractors.

We are trying to build infrastructure around the transaction itself.

It is:

  1. Create the account.
  2. Complete the verification requirements.
  3. Upload relevant work photographs.
  4. Keep service categories accurate.
  5. Install the Pro App.
  6. Respond to projects that actually fit your business.
  7. Communicate professionally.
  8. Document completed work.
  9. Build history.

Then decide how deeply you want to use the platform.
